Job Skills Training

A significant gap exists in the space of higher education–vocational/technical training and formal university education. Designed for post-secondary learners to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies in the labor market, our vocational education program will include career training and work-based components. Successful completion of the program will lead to labor-market relevant qualifications. The program also offers an optional path toward a university degree, including work-study stipends.

mentoring

Our mentorship program is designed to support and enhance children’s English language proficiency through personalized guidance and assistance. The program pairs each child with a dedicated mentor who is proficient in English and has a passion for helping children succeed.

Seeing to Read

Healthy vision and regular eye testing play a vital role in a child’s ability to learn and succeed academically. Children with untreated vision problems may experience difficulties in reading, writing, and comprehending information. They may struggle to see clearly, resulting in reduced concentration and slower reading speed. These challenges can hinder their ability to absorb and retain information, leading to poor academic progress. With the help of Good Vision, our learners receive eye screenings and obtain free eyeglasses when needed.

Menstrual Equity

Ensuring menstrual equity is crucial for enabling girls to stay in school. Menstruation can pose significant challenges for girls, particularly in low-income or marginalized communities, where access to menstrual products, clean water, and sanitation facilities may be limited. These challenges often lead to school absenteeism and negatively impact girls’ educational opportunities and overall well-being. Working with partners like Days for Girls and Freedom Kits of Yakima, we provide our female learners with the necessary resources and support to manage their periods effectively, thus removing a significant barrier to their education.

Health and Wellness

It Takes a Village is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of our learners. We believe that healthy habits formed during childhood can have a lifelong impact, and we strive to empower children to make positive choices for their physical and mental well-being. With partners like KidsCollab, our health and wellness programs combine education, physical activity, and fun to create a holistic approach to health and wellness.
